Introductory Diploma in Vocational Studies
WHY
TAKE VOCATIONAL STUDIES?
The BTEC Introductory Diploma is designed to give you an opportunity
to explore and study a variety of different vocational areas to help
you to develop personal skills, increase confidence and achieve your
full potential. Through studying a range of topics you will be better
prepared for the choices you can make when progressing on to Level 2
BTEC First or going into employment.
WHAT
ARE THE KEY AREAS OF STUDY?
The BTEC Vocational Studies course requires you to complete 7 units
of work covering a variety of topics. These include Business, Retail
and Administration; Customer Service; ICT; Communication; Health and
Safety; Travel and Tourism and Health and Social Care.
WHAT
SKILLS WILL I NEED AND DEVELOP?
There are no formal qualifications needed but a good command of English
is helpful. We will help you to develop your organisation skills and
you will also have the opportunity to complete a range of Key Skills
qualifications.
ARE
THERE ANY SPECIAL QUALIFICATIONS I NEED?
There are no special qualifications needed to take this course.
HOW
WILL I BE ASSESSED?
There are no exams on this course but you will need to collect evidence
of your work in the form of a portfolio. You will complete work in a
variety of ways to assess your ability which will include written assignments,
oral presentations, practical tasks and meetings. At the end of each
completed unit you are awarded either a pass, merit or distinction grade.

To
further your vocational experience you will have the opportunity to
participate in a range of activities including external visits, listening
to guest speakers, Business Enterprise days and role plays.

STUDENT IN PROFILE - JAN SAMONTE
Former High School - St Gregory's
Jan
came to Priestley from St Gregory's High School with a limited collection
of GCSEs. After gaining a Distinction grade on the Vocational Studies
course, he went on to study a Level 2 Business course. Upon completion
he was able to move on to advanced level qualifications to complement
his long term aspirations of pursuing a career in the nursing field.
