AS / A2 Spanish
WHY
TAKE SPANISH?
Spanish is a worldwide language with many variations depending on the
region or country where it is spoken. Having Spanish is extremely useful
if you want to work in business, marketing, journalism, law and the
tourist industry or any career demanding good communication. You will
find that people skills and analysis plus having a language skill will
give you the edge when applying for jobs as most companies have contact
offices abroad.
WHAT
ARE THE KEY AREAS OF STUDY?
For AS Spanish you will study 2 aspects of Spanish life; Leisure and
Lifestyles and The Individual and Society.
The
A2 course also deals with 2 topics related to the Spanish speaking world
or Spain; Environmental Issues and Social and Political Issues.
You
will also study two of the following; a Spanish film, a Spanish speaking
country or region, or a Spanish book. You will talk about one in your
oral exam and write about the other in your final A2 exam.
WHAT
SKILLS WILL I NEED AND DEVELOP?
You will continue to develop your speaking, listening, reading and writing
skills as you did for GCSE. You will learn to express your ideas and
opinions on the range of topics we study. You will also strengthen and
extend your knowledge and understanding of grammar.
ARE
THERE ANY SPECIAL QUALIFICATIONS I NEED?
You should have a minimum average GCSE pass of grade C and at least
a GCSE grade C in Spanish and English Language.
HOW
WILL I BE ASSESSED?
The AS course is assessed by 2 exams, one oral and one written. The
A2 course is assessed by 2 exams, one oral and one written.
You
will be assessed every half term so we can see how you are progressing.
PRIESTLEY
EXTRA
You
will have the opportunity to do a week’s work experience in Spain.
You will be able to watch films at the Cornerhouse cinema in Manchester.
You will be able to attend university 6th Form Days and Spanish AS and
A2 topic days.

STUDENT IN PROFILE - MILES CADDICK
Former High School - Woolston
Miles has just completing his first year at Priestley and studied Spanish
alongside numerous other courses including German, Maths, Further Maths
and Physics. He enjoys the variety of activities that take place in
his Language classes and was drawn to the courses by the option of completing
overseas work experience. In the future he plans do pursue a Maths degree
with Languages at University.
