BTEC National Public Services
WHY
TAKE BTEC NATIONAL PUBLIC SERVICES?
This course will provide you with a real insight into the work carried
out by the public services and the skills required to succeed in a career
in this field. The course will introduce you to a range of modules that
will show you how the public services operate, and deal with various
situations. The course aims to prepare you for direct entry into a range
of Public Services or for a University course before embarking upon
a chosen
career.
WHAT
ARE THE KEY AREAS OF STUDY?
The course is modular, which means that you will build up a series of
assignments throughout the two years. Modules that you will study include
Government Policies and the public services, team development, team
leadership, citizenship, physical preparation for the uniformed services
and Police powers and the Public services.
WHAT
SKILLS WILL I NEED AND DEVELOP?
You will need to be a person that is willing to actively participate
in a range of activities, and is also prepared to lead a team on occasions.
You will need a real interest in a career in one of the public services,
and also be organised and able to meet deadlines.
ARE
THERE ANY SPECIAL QUALIFICATIONS I NEED?
You will not need any specific GCSEs to join this course.
HOW
WILL I BE ASSESSED?
The BTEC qualification is assessed by coursework. You will be expected
to complete assignments during the year that may include written tasks,
practical activities and presentations.
PRIESTLEY
EXTRA
To
further your vocational experience, you will have the opportunity to
participate in a range of activities organised by your tutors including
Police and Fire Service visits and personal activity days with the Army,
RAF, Navy and Royal Marines. There is also an opportunity to take part
in an overseas study trip, most recently Public Services students travelled
to New York and spent time with the Police and Fire Departments in the
City.

Laura
studied the BTEC National Diploma in Public Services alongside an A
Level in Drama. During her course she participated in many of the day
visits and residentials that were on offer including the RAF Leadership
Challenge event. Laura went onto continue her studies in the subject
at Manchester Metropolitan University on the BA (Honours) degree programme.

STUDENT
IN PROFILE - ADAM ROBINSON
Former High School - Birchwood
Adam
successfully completed his BTEC National Diploma in Public Services
alongside A Levels in Sport and PE and Psychology. In Public Services,
Adam particularly excelled in the practical sessions, where he was a
valuable team member. Upon his departure from College, he continued
his study to degree level at University where he opted to take Sports
Therapy.
