Level 3 Diploma for the Children and
Young People's Workforce
WHY
TAKE THIS COURSE?
This is an exciting new qualification that offers transferable skills
across the children and young people’s workforce sector. The qualification
is recognised by employers as providing skills, knowledge and understanding
and by Universities as providing valuable and often entry requirement
practical experiences. This qualification can be taken over 1 year full
time or 2 years combined with other AS/A2 subjects.
WHAT
WILL I STUDY?
You will study a variety of core units including communication, health
and safety, promoting development that will provide skills, knowledge
and development
across a wide range of sectors. On completion of the core units you
will then select a pathway relevant to your chosen career which could
be childcare, social or learning development and support services. You
will then complete specialist units in your chosen area.
HOW
WILL I BE ASSESSED?
Assessments will be varied and include written assignments, discussions
and presentations to show knowledge and understanding. You will also
be assessed on your practical skills whilst on placement. This will
usually be in the format of a planned and organised observation which
will be supported by a witness statement.
WHAT
SKILLS AND SPECIAL QUALIFICATIONS DO I NEED?
For the 1 year course you will need at least 3 GCSEs at grade C or above
and a CRB certificate. You will also need to have the desire to work
with children and young people in a variety of settings, with a view
to supporting and developing them in order for them to achieve their
full potential.
For
the 2 year course you will need at least 5 GCSEs at grade C or above
and a CRB certificate. You will be planning a future career in an Early
Years, Education, Health or Social Care sector that requires you to
gain a University degree.
WHAT
CAN I DO NEXT?
This qualification can lead to careers such as a; Careers Adviser, Children’s
Centre Worker, Connexions Personal Adviser, Education Welfare Officer,
Foster Carer, Healthcare Assistant, Learning Mentor, Nursery Nurse,
Nursery School Teacher, Registered Childminder, Registered Nanny, Residential
Childcare Worker, Youth and Community Worker and Care Worker.

You will have the opportunity to take part in enrichment activities
including; Sign Language, First Aid and Crafts and also in wider College
enrichment activities. Diploma students are invited to take part in
international foreign work and study experiences. Day visits, conferences
and guest speakers will enhance your learning within the College.
