Farhad Qayam - PRIZE
FOR ACHIEVEMENT LEVEL 2
An enthusiastic learner, Farhad was able to make great progress
on his course. He came to Priestley from Woolston High and enrolled
onto our BTEC First Business Diploma. Farhad always displayed
a mature approach to his studies, always met deadlines and had
an excellent attendance record. He was determined to do well and
achieved a Distinction in the BTEC First. Farhad then moved on
to study AS Accounts, Geography, Geology and World Development
and has approached his studies at this level with the same enthusiasm
and commitment.

Hannah Hutton
- PRIZE FOR FOUNDATION LEVEL STUDIES
Hannah
came to Priestley from Penketh High with a long-term goal of working
with children. To this end, she enrolled on the Foundation Programme
and was always totally committed to her studies. She worked consistently
throughout the year, met all her deadlines, had a 100% attendance
record and was awarded with a Distinction. In line with her career
plans Hannah progressed to the Childcare, Learning and Development
BTEC First Diploma. She continues to be an enthusiastic and motivated
student, always working to the best of her ability. |

Ryan
Swart - PRIZE FOR PROGRESS LEVEL 2
Ryan
came to England from South Africa to start a new life with his
family and began his education at Penketh High. Sport was always
his passion and he enrolled to study a BTEC First Diploma in Sport
with GCSE English. He settled in well and enjoyed the challenges
of the BTEC First. Ryan was also part of our QIA Innovation project
to raise male achievement in academic study, this helped him obtain
a merit profile which allowed progress onto the BTEC National
Diploma in Sport, where he continues to demonstrate a positive
attitude.
Ryan plays Cricket for Appleton and has made such an impact on
the team that he is now being monitored by scouts.

Michael Turner
- PLUMPTON/CUNNINGHAM PRIZE FOR ENDEAVOUR
Michael
came to Priestley from Birchwood High to embark on a BTEC National
Certificate in ICT and to re-sit his GCSE English. He completed
his BTEC ICT as well as passing an AS in Business Studies. Michael
decided to stay on to complete his A Level in Business and also
successfully completed AS Citizenship to go with the double merit
he obtained on his BTEC National. His success was all the more remarkable
as he suffered from Aspergers. Despite being awarded a place at
Manchester Metropolitan University, he decided to do a more practical
course at St Helens College upon his departure. Michael continues
to be an active member of Warrington Aspergers Support Group, and
is a very popular role model for the younger members. |

Chris
Leyland - PRIZE FOR CONTRIBUTION TO COLLEGE LIFE
AND THE WIDER COMMUNITY
Chris
came to Priestley from Birchwood High School with an impressive
set of GCSEs. He studied a full programme at both AS and A2 alongside
working for various groups which included the youth forum - Impact,
which gave him a taste for politics and community work. Chris
was also a founder member and the Chair of Warrington Youth Funds,
with a responsibility of distributing around half a million pounds
of government money to youth projects in the area. During his
time at College, Chris was also President of the Student Council
and left with
four A2s in Law, Drama, Chemistry and English Language. He is
now reading Law at Nottingham University.

Slawa
Rusin - PRIZE FOR ART & DESIGN
Slawa
came to England from Poland in September 2005 and enrolled on
the BTEC First Diploma in Art and Design at Priestley. From the
start she impressed staff with her talent and determination and
obtained a Distinction. She then moved onto a challenging AS programme
of Graphics, Textiles and Art, taking them all through to A Level.
She obtained grade As in Graphics and Art and a B in Textiles.
Slawa is now on our Art Foundation programme where she is developing
her interest in animation and illustration and aims to go to university
in the future.

Daniel
Malone - PRIZE FOR BUSINESS, LAW AND TOURISM
Daniel
arrived at Priestley from Penketh High and started out on the
Level 1 Business course. He then progressed onto BTEC First Diploma
in Business and then the BTEC National where he obtained a double
distinction to go with the distinctions he achieved at Foundation
and Intermediate level. Just as remarkable was Daniel's progress
in English, starting on our foundation programme, he gained a
distinction before moving to GCSE where he obtained a grade C,
but not satisfied with this he then went on to complete and pass
his AS in English Literature. Daniel also demonstrated excellent
leadership skills and after fours years with us, he gained a place
to read Business Studies at Liverpool Hope University.

Jafor
Malik - PRIZE FOR EARLY YEARS, HEALTH & SOCIAL
CARE
Jafor
came to Priestley from Lymm High and embarked upon a study of
A levels in Health and Social Care, AS Applied Science and Mathematics
at GCSE. Despite a heavy timetable and outside responsibilities
he never missed a deadline. It was during his second year at College
that he made the decision to embark upon a career in social work.
Jafor obtained a Double A Level in Health and Social Care with
an AS in Applied Science and he was also able to pass his GCSE
Maths with a grade C. He went onto study Social Work at The University
of Bangor.

Rebecca
Bailey - PRIZE FOR HUMANITIES
Becky
joined Priestley from Birchwood High with excellent GCSE results
and continued her academic success at College. She achieved the
highest grades in all of her subjects obtaining A grades in Politics,
Sociology and Law and an A in AS World Development to go alongside
the A she obtained in AS Critical Thinking in her first year.
Becky was offered a place at Nottingham University to read International
Relations but decided to defer entry. She subsequently returned
to Priestley in the post of Student Mentor.

Mark
Vardy - PRIZE FOR ICT
Mark
made huge strides during his time at Priestley and his persistence
and focus was to be admired. He arrived at College from Padgate
High. Enrolling on a Foundation Business programme he progressed
to the BTEC First in ICT and went onto study upto level three.
Mark's determination enabled him to achieve the equivalent to
a Grade A and two C's at A level, not bad for someone who started
College with just one GCSE at grade C. He achieved these results
despite severe Dyslexia and it is testimony to both his hard work
and his willingness to work with his teachers and support staff,
that he achieved so much in his time. He went onto apply for an
apprenticeship in Business Administration and IT with Warrington
Borough Council.

Ashley
Cox - MARGARET KENT PRIZE FOR PRACTICAL WORK FOR
SCIENCE AND MATHS
Ashley
joined Priestley from Great Sankey High School with a strong background
in Maths. During his time at College he achieved excellent results.
A very conscientious and a mature young man he obtained a Double
Merit in his BTEC National IT programme alongside B grade AS Levels
in Electronics and Maths. Ashley
then moved on to De Montford University to do Computer Games programming.

Graham
Helliwell - PRIZE FOR SCIENCE AND MATHS
Graham
came to Priestley from Great Sankey High, with an excellent set
of GCSE's and went onto
excel in all his
subjects, both practically and theoretically. Studying A levels
in Maths, Further Maths, Physics and Computing, he gaining four
straight A's which were complemented with a grade A in AS Electronics.
Graham subsequently accepted a place at Cambridge University to
study Computer Science.

Megan
Tyler - PRIZE FOR ACADEMIC EXCELLENCE
Megan
joined Priestley on an A level programme after achieving excellent
GCSEs at Birchwood High which included seven A* grades. She went
onto land five A grades at AS Level in her first year and then
four A grade A-levels in her second year. She was also one of
the top five performing candidates in the country for the subject
of Biology and the top national performer for Geology. In all
subjects Megan was a highly motivated, well organised and practically
minded student with a genuine flare for Science. Outside her studies
she represented
her region at national level in the high jump; played netball
for the College and completed a Duke of Edinburgh award. Megan
subsequently accepted a place at Cambridge University to study
Natural Sciences.

Laura
Cronshaw - PRIZE FOR MEDIA AND PERFORMING ARTS
Laura
came to College from Culcheth High School and after completing
her first year she showed particular strengths in the area of
Film and Media Studies. She later progressed to take a BTEC National
Award in Production Arts which saw her stage manage and technically
operate numerous College productions. By the end of her course
she had matured into a professional, creative and confident team
player. Throughout her studies Laura gained good grades including
a Distinction in Performing Arts. She then went onto study a Film
and Media Degree at Sheffield Hallam University.

Daniel
O'Brien - PRIZE FOR SPORTING ENDEAVOUR
Danny
successfully completed a BTEC First Diploma in Sport after arriving
from St Gregory's and then embarked on a 2 year BTEC National
Diploma. During his time at College Danny was an integral member
of the Rugby League Development Centre that went on to become
National champions and gained International Honours for Ireland
whilst captaining the Priestley side that became North West Cup
winners. To compliment his studies he worked as a Community Coach
for Warrington Wolves and also spent two summer holiday's coaching
young soccer players in California. Daniel subsequently left to
study a Degree in Sport at Edge Hill University.

Rebecca
Kirk - PRIZE FOR SPORT
Becky
joined Priestley from William Beamont High and embarked on a programme
of AS level study. She then enrolled on the BTEC National in Exercise
Science, which was completed alongside an A Level in Sport and
PE. Throughout her two years she was a hard-working, motivated
and diligent student that always strived for the top grades. She
also represented the ladies football team and finished her BTEC
National with a triple Distinction. Becky then continued her love
of sport by taking an outdoor education degree at Bangor University.
